I’m Glad You’re Here
Looking for the right therapist is a great first step in your journey to understanding yourself deeper and feeling empowered to move forward in whatever way you choose.
How do you know who is the right fit?
Looking into therapy can be scary. A thousand questions can run through your head as you are trying to find the right fit. Are they trained in my specific symptoms? Are they going to make me dive right into my most difficult memories right away? Are they going to *get* me? Are they going to make judgments about me? Are they just going to sit there and nod their head for an hour and then take my money and end the session?
The sheer number of therapist options alone is enough to trigger anxiety. Especially if one of the things bringing you into therapy is feeling like you can’t trust your decisions.
Whoever it is that you choose, the biggest thing you should be looking for is a sense of relational safety. In the context of a safe relationship, true healing can occur. While training in different modalities that help support your particular issue is important, the ability to communicate your needs and wants in therapy is going to be transformational to the process. Look below for more information about how I approach my therapy relationships.
What sets me apart?
I work from a relational, attachment-focused, trauma-competent and family-systems approach. I consider the whole person, not just the symptom you are presenting with. I have learned over years of training that symptoms don’t appear in a vacuum; they are brilliant, adaptive responses to what has happened, and sometimes, what continues to happen in a person’s life. I have a sincere commitment to seeing the whole person with each of my clients so that we can find the parts of you that need witnessing and healing for deep, real change. I believe that there is resilience within all of us and the key is tuning into what our body and mind are already saying to us.
