Who am I as a therapist?
Getting to witness someone’s story and be a part of their healing is an honor. It is incredibly important to me to make my clients feel safe and held. One of the most monumental parts of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. Without presence, unconditional compassion, and the occasional really good joke, true transformation can’t happen. While I am heavily trained in trauma modalities and enjoy using a variety of treatment methods to help client’s find the healing they are looking for, I also make a point to make sure we are creating a safe environment and I am understanding all of the intricate pieces that make you, you.
In all of my trainings over the years, I have had the importance of family histories and relational safety reinforced. We all have intricate stories, and they deserve to be made full space for in order to undo the shame we have learned over the years that can be driving many of our behaviors.
I believe that even some of people’s most difficult or “distasteful” behaviors make incredible sense when you are able to slow down and explore the function of the behavior. I believe that humans are incredibly adaptive and resilient, and we do things because well…they work. Our body is telling us a story and I take it as my job to help us create enough safety to slow down and listen to it so that real change can happen.
People need connection to heal. And I genuinely enjoy finding ways to connect with my clients and help them connect with themselves in meaningful ways. I bring compassion, humility, and humor to my sessions, as being a “blank slate” just doesn’t feel human to me.
Who am I outside of session?
I am an avid animal lover and if I’m not in session, I’m probably running around with my 2 dogs, Jax and Reah. I also make sure to stay engaged in my own therapy, both to be a better human and a better therapist. The tools I teach in session aren’t just things I talk about, they are things I personally use as well!
